Eight sense
More than just a district, the area around Hôtel Le Lavoisier is both a hub of Parisian life, with its top addresses, narrow side streets and quiet squares, as well as a strategic destination, at the crossroads of the 8th arrondissement’s many treasures and prestige. In addition to the pleasure of sitting at a café terrace or taking a stroll, you can also take advantage of being in the vicinity of legendary monuments, as well as the iconic main squares, or ‘Places’, and avenues. Just a stone’s throw from Hôtel Le Lavoisier are the must-see Champs-Elysées, Place de la Madeleine, the Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the Grands Magasins major department stores, as well as the Jacquemart-André Museum. And, of course, also within walking distance, you will happen upon the River Seine and its supremely majestic bridges.
THE SPIRIT OF THE AREA
HAUSSMANNIAN CACHET
The majestic cornerstone of the immediate cityscape is its Hausmannian bourgeoisie atmosphere, which makes its mark on Hôtel Le Lavoisier’s surroundings in a stately manner. And yet, Paris’s 8th arrondissement’s avenues and boulevards are also plied by more confidential streets, where hidden treasures can be found, starting with rue Lavoisier itself. Take a stroll around the area to discover the wealth of captivating treasures.
This contrast between imposing and hidden is what constitutes the Hôtel Le Lavoisier quarter’s true value, which reveals itself almost serependitously as you stroll around. Take in the gems in between the main-travelled roads: just a short distance from number 21 rue Lavoisier is the Chapelle Expiatoire, a neoclassical wonder, an oasis standing in its own square. Other worthwhile sights include the extraordinary façade of the Théâtre des Mathurins, the centuries-old Flower Market on Place de la Madeleine, and the Galerie de la Madeleine — as true connoisseurs — in the same way as the Village Royal, which is as elegant as a film set.
SURROUNDING AREA
ARCHITECTURAL CHIC
Number 21 rue Lavoisier is the privileged starting point for seeing Paris in all its style and grandeur. The rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, on the doorstep, is not only home to the Élysée Palace, but also to a plethora of the most exclusively prestigious luxury stores prestige. A little further on, there is the Champs-Elysées, of course, which is pedestrianised on the first Sunday of the month, and as impressively buzzing with cosmopolitan life every day of the week. Also within walking distance from Hôtel Le Lavoisier, you will come to the must-see, with views of both banks of the Seine, and Tuileries Gardens. The arts are not left out either, with modern photo exhibitions at the Jeu de Paume, and Monet’s Waterlilies at the Musée de l’Orangerie or, the lesser-known wonder of the Hôtel de la Marine (Admiralty building), with its typical 17th-century apartments that are open to the public.

In this vein, the Marloe with its traditional brasserie atmosphere, or the cosy Traboule, are excellent places to dine. And on an even more uplifting note, in this case for teatime, there’s the Café de la Rose, on the Champs-Elysées, which boasts the best pastry chef in the world, Nina Métayer, whose floral delicacies are just heavenly.
